Tuesday - April 23 rd 9:00 am Dr. Kathy called and inquired about the baby. She was relieved when I told her I cut her hobbles off. She had just spoken to Dr. 'Darling' and described what she saw and asked him what can be done. He commented how hard it was not being able to see the chick but he would be calling me this after noon..
All the sudden my brain kicked in and I got the web cam set up and ready for his call. I hoped that they had an online computer so he could get a glimpse of what we were dealing with and help with the diagnosis and future plans.
Tuesday - April 23 rd 2:00 pm Dr. Darling (Kraft) calls and patiently waits while I have to reboot my computer. When I finally get her on the cam, he assures me this is not splay and good thing I got her out of the hobbles. The think I like most about Dr. Darling is he does not beat around the bush and tells it like it is.
So here it is in a nutshell. Surgery can be very dangerous to a chick that age. Unlike puppies or kittens, in many cases someone has to breath for baby parrots when they are under anesthesia. Or we can try and wait until she is older but at the fast rate macaws grow, this may not be good on her joint. Points to ponder: She is laying flat on her crop which could cause her crop to slow way down. We may end up losing her to crop problems. He wanted the films sent and required a few digital pictures. ( see below) Films were sent out the next day.
