Friday May 10  2002    235 grams -OINK   That's 170 grams in 12 days, Gonna catch right up!
Emily stood on her own today!  Notice how she props her leg up until she  feels comfy.  The other seems to work just fine.
Emily continues to thrive, gaining nicely. I am concerned about her leg still, while I understand we need to let her make bone mass, there is a bone trying to protrude from under her leg.  I will be taking her into see Dr. Ed, Tuesday the 14th at 8:20.  I am concerned and would feel better if we could see if the bones are rapidly growing in opposite directions and if we need to jump on this now, rather than wait until she is older.

To the RIGHT is the bone that worries me. She grows, it pushes farther out.

A friend submitted this question to Dr. Harrison. At ask the bird guy  on Harrison's web site.

3109 -- baby macaw severe leg deformity Cathy 05/04/2002

Question Dr Harrison, a friend of mine in Washington state has a 3 week old baby B&G macaw that has a severe leg deformity, she is fortunate enough to have found good veterinary help for the problem, but I was wondering if you might have some helpful ideas as well? she has set up a very detailed web site complete with photos and all details of what they are trying to do for the baby. Would you mind taking a look? the website is http//www.cheepthrillsaviary.com/Emily I know how busy you are but any input would be greatly appreciated Cathy

Answer
Cases like this are a best use of my time and others benefit most if posted at avianmedicine.net. We will link this up at our veterinary site avianmedicine.net and vets will take a look at it...

Cathy writes:
When Dr. H  links Emily's site to his 'vets only' site, your vet can get access to whatever the other vets who look at it have to say.

All he has to do is get a password from Harrison, there is a link for vets to do that at his website sounds like he wants to make it an educational type thingy for other vets to benefit from.  Might help another baby somewhere on down the line.

Thanks Cathy!!!!
